IPL Player’s Retention for the year 2018

Hi everyone! Welcome to Emad’s blog and in this article we are going talk about IPL player’s policies for the year 2018! Happy New Year and let’s begin!
The Indian Premier League (IPL), Governing Council (Gc) along with the Committee of Administrators (CoA) met in New Delhi, to discuss about issues regarding the auctions such as IPL Player retention policy, Salary cap and Players regulations.

The IPL Gc and CoA  decided the following:–

  • All the eight teams that will take part in IPL 2018 – Chennai Superkings (CSK), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Delhi Daredevils (DD), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

 

  • These five retentions will take place within two methods i.e,

   a) Retaining directly and RTM (Right to Match).
   b) Salary Cap
   
a) Retaining directly-
 • A maximum of either 3 retention or 3 RTM (Right to Match) at the franchises.
 • If there is no retention before player auction then franchises can have up to 3 RTM.

   Following will apply irrespective of player retention or RTM –
  -Maximum number of 3 Capped Indian players.
  -Maximum number of 2 Overseas players.
  -Maximum number of 2 Uncapped Indian players.
 

The player pool available for CSK and RR for retention/RTM will be the players’ who played for the respectively team of RPS and GL  in IPL 2017.
b). Salary Cap-
   • 2018 – INR 80 Crore
   • 2019 – INR 82 Crore
   • 2020 – INR 85 Crore

This season, each IPL team will have a higher salary purse of Rs 80 crores, which will increase to Rs 82 crores in 2019 and Rs 85 crores in 2020.

Now, if a team decides to retain three players,they will have to pay a total sum of Rs 33 crore.

(i) Option 1

In case, a team decides to retain only two players, they will have to pay Rs 21 crores, in which
Rs 12.5 crore will pay to the 1st player and Rs 8.5 crore will pay for the second player.

(ii) Option 2

In case, a team decides to retain an uncapped player, then a sum of Rs 3 crore will pay to a player.

All the eight teams will have the  maximum squad of 25 players,and with maximum of 8 overseas players and a minimum of 18 players.
